NOTE: The book does not have the required software on the CD. The software is sold separately. The CD that comes with the book has the lesson files only. Online Course Responsibilities This course requires significant self-motivation. You must not get behind. Lessons can take up to eight hours to finish. Don't try to do them in one day. Please note that all lessons are NOT created equal. Some may take a bit more time than others. You would normally spend 5 hours per week in class for this course (total 80 hours). Allow yourself at least 5-8 hours per lesson to complete the lessons on-line, including the time spent writing and responding to the postings in the class Forum. You should plan additional time to read the posted material and to upload your files to the server. Depending on your internet connection speed, large files can take quite a bit of time to upload. Please DO NOT wait until the due date and time to upload your lessons. Some people believe an online course is an easier way to study than an on campus class because they love to read on their own time and avoid parking problems. Others may feel very intimidated at first. Be patient as you work your way through the first few lessons. If you read well and are serious about the material, you will learn as much or more than most on campus students about this subject and develop reading and communication skills that are vital to the workforce of the 21st century. Online Courtesy Policy Extreme consideration for the feelings of others is expected. People can’t see you smile and won’t know that you are joking. Do not tell people they are stupid or wrong. Do explain why you believe differently. If someone has the facts wrong, direct them to the source of accurate information or politely offer your alternative "facts." Use of profanity or direct insults which defame a person's character, race, ethnicity, religion, etc. are inappropriate and will not be tolerated. Such abuses will result in expulsion from the course after one warning. Grading Participation in the Forum and weekly assignments are graded on the point system. Points are earned for forum participation and assigned lessons and projects. If a lesson is turned in late, one grade lower will be earned. Grade Table There will be individual lessons assigned on a weekly basis. Each lesson, activity, midterm and final projects are assigned a point value. Forum participation is also graded. Grades are calculated according to the following percentages: A = 100 - 91% B = 90 - 81% C = 80 - 71% D = 70 - 61% F = 60 - 0% Projected Course Schedule This is a 8 week course. The following are the projected topics and are subject to change dependent on student/class progress.

E-mail: [email protected] If you have questions or wish to contact me, think “Net!” Please feel free to e-mail me at any time. Questions about course content, related issues, grading, study habits, and so forth are welcome. Every reasonable effort will be made to assist in a student's success, especially when that need is expressly communicated. Supplemental Facebook Page (“Like” to follow class-related content!)
I created a Facebook page as a supplement to instruction. It is a Page rather than a Profile so if you would like to follow my posts, click the "Like" button and I will show up on your Facebook news feed. I do not have access to your Wall, so do not worry about privacy issues. It is just a great way to announce new technology, post tutorials, and relay information in the digital arts field. Are you game? If so, login to your Facebook account and use the QR code or link to access the page and press "Like" to start following my wall posts. This is not a requirement to the class, it is an optional task. http://www.facebook.com/denisereilley |
